| ABOUT MONK PARROTS Monk Parrots, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit performing arts organization founded in New York by director Luke Leonard. MPs contribute to culture through presentations of time-based artworks, encourage interdisciplinary and international exchange, foster creative approaches to theatre-making, and provide opportunities to artists. The company derives its name from Monk Parakeets, specifically the ones that have found their way into the Northeastern United States via overturned delivery trucks and other legends. Unlike most tropical birds, they can survive basically anywhere and adjust to unusual climates. They are smart, work together, and symbolize survival, multiplicity and growth. Inspiration gained from other fine arts; such as, painting, installation, and sculpture, reflect our appreciation of theatre as an experience that is original, immanent, and aesthetic. Our present aims include buidling a repertory of works in hopes of someday touring.
